The April Arts Marathon, hosted by CASP Vermont, is a month-long creative fundraiser that brings together artists across the region in support of individuals navigating the asylum process in Southern Vermont. Throughout April, I’ll be participating by creating a series of papercut illustrations focused on migratory animals.

SPRING PEEPER FROG
6×7 inches, created with cut and glued cardstock
A sure sign that spring has landed in Vermont, the Spring Peeper is small in size but impossible to ignore. Though tiny, they play an important role in our seasonal wetlands, emerging from winter dormancy to gather, call, and breed. Their chorus becomes a defining landscape of spring, marking a shift in the environment and the return of life after the long winter months.

CANADA GOOSE
10×10 inches, created with cut and glued cardstock
This week’s piece features the Canada Goose, a familiar and powerful symbol of migration across Vermont’s skies. I focused on balancing texture and color to give depth to the forms. Like many migratory species, Canada Geese travel vast distances seasonally, navigating changing environments in search of safety, resources, and suitable habitat.
